What’s the Difference Between Light Buildup and Heavy Buildup?
Light Buildup
Light buildup refers to early-stage surface contamination that has not deeply bonded to the surface.
Light buildup typically includes:
Dust, pollen, and general surface dirt
Faint green or gray discoloration
Early mold, mildew, or algae spots
Surfaces that have been cleaned within the last 12–18 months
Light buildup is usually easier to remove and requires less dwell time and fewer treatment applications, making it ideal for routine maintenance cleaning.
Heavy Buildup
Heavy buildup occurs when organic growth has been allowed to develop over a longer period of time and has bonded more deeply into the surface.
Heavy buildup typically includes:
Dark green, black, or brown staining
Thick mold, mildew, or algae growth
Widespread or heavily shaded areas
Streaking, patching, or uneven discoloration
Surfaces that have not been cleaned for several years
Heavy buildup requires additional cleaning solution, longer dwell time, and multiple treatment applications to properly kill and remove the growth—not just rinse it away.
